How do I install my gas spring?

  • Standard gas springs must be installed with the cylinder (the thickest part) higher than the piston rod (the thinner rod) when the flap is closed, so that the oil can provide the necessary lubrication.
  • Gas springs must be installed in their extended state. The best way to do this is to have someone helping you so that one person can keep the flap, hatch, cupboard, cover etc. in position while the other installs the spring. Alternatively, you can prop your flap/hatch/cover up or support it in some way.
  • The first time you use your gas spring, we recommend you slowly and gradually press the piston rod in and release it, as this will help lubricate the parts of the gas spring.
  • You should never manually press in gas springs with a force higher than 200 N. The force needed to press these gas springs in is much too high and could injure you.
  • If the gas spring is a little longer than the installation space, try to open the flap a little bit further in order to increase the distance between the mounting points. However, it’s really better to ensure that the gas spring has the same length as the space in your installation.
