What types of gas springs are there?
1. Gas compression spring: The gas compression spring is the most commonly used type of gas spring. When the rod is pushed in, the gas inside the cylinder is compressed, generating a counterforce that automatically pushes the rod back out. This provides a controlled pushing motion. Gas compression springs are widely used for opening or supporting hatches, flaps, and lids — typically in the automotive industry, machinery, and furniture applications.
2. Gas tension spring: A gas tension spring operates on the same principle, but in reverse. The rod is normally in the extended position and is pulled inward during use. Once the external force is removed, the internal pressure pulls the rod back out. This results in a controlled pulling motion, ideal for closing panels, covers, or doors. Lockable gas spring This type combines the characteristics of a gas compression spring with a locking mechanism. Through a valve system, the rod can be locked in any desired position.
3. Lockable gas springs: are perfect for applications where adjustability is essential, such as office chairs, medical equipment, and ergonomic furniture.
