What is a gas spring? How does it work?
A gas spring consists of a cylinder (the thicker tube) and a piston rod (the thinner tube). The cylinder is filled with nitrogen and oil and is maintained at high pressure. The piston rod is located on the front of the piston, which means that the pressure surface on the piston is much smaller here than on the back where there is no piston rod. This mechanism enables the gas spring to extend after being pressed in.
